I liked the depiction of growing emotional closeness between Austin and Cam under such horrific conditions, and of course, during their flashback episodes later. However, this book requires a suspension of disbelief that I can't quite achieve. First, we're supposed to believe that the kidnapper is working alone and is able to somehow obtain chloroform, kidnap ten men separately using the same M.O. and no one will figure it out? He was described as being in his 50s and out of shape with a huge beer belly, and yet he was strong enough to abduct ten able-bodied men without collapsing? Not to mention he was able to then drive each man far away to a remote area, again without anyone noticing. I won't go into details about how the men got away, because they involve major spoilers, but trust me, they wouldn't have gotten out. If the author had done even a little research, she would have realized this. Instead, this looks like a cheap plot trick to add unneeded suspense. It's lazy writing, and it definitely bothered me. I won't even go into all the sex, which I tend to skip past, anyway. Also, this would have been a better book if Austin's wife hadn't been so obnoxious. Her complete lack of any sympathy made her a caricature. Read this book at your own risk. 2 1/2 stars. This is so outside my usual fare, it's not funny. I've had this book 4 YEARS, picked it up b/c it was free & didn't read the summary carefully. That being said..... after a few chapters, I realized what a gem I had discovered. Told in flashbacks which save the book from being too dark, I met two different men who shared a nightmare experience & learned about each other but more importantly about themselves.Through the story, you learn how each man had been ignoring being incomplete & settling. The descriptions were vivid & the interaction truthful. The relationship between one character & his daughter, was touching & warmed my heart.If your looking for a tender story of heartbreak & freedom, look no further. This is one of best love stories I've read & never saw it coming!
